FIVE-MINUTE CHALLENGES |
|
"There's not enough time in the school day for everything." Absolutely right! With all the pressures from all the people and places... You know what I'm talking about. Yet, we know that ongoing, consistent practice of the skills introduced in Cooperative Adventures programs must be practiced on a regular basis so that they are not forgotten. This practice is also important if we want these skills to generalize outside of the classroom -- to the playground, to the family, and to the community. In conversations with students this fall, we know that five minutes of class time can be saved during a school day through the efforts of students. Ideas generated by students include: limiting chatter, working harder, listening to directions, etc. Brainstorm a list of these time-saving ideas with your class and post them in the classroom, adding to them as you discover more. As a consequence of saving this time, check out and use one of the following Five Minute Challenges with your class as often as you can. Please be sure to share your variations on these challenges with me so that I can share them with others. Remember -- no one of us is as smart as all of us!
