Monkey's Fist

A sailor's knot from the age of sail, a monkey's fist was used at the end of a "heaving line" to add weight to the end of the rope so that it could be thrown. Generally a rock, bolt, or other weight was inserted in the middle of the knot before it was tightened. I first learned to tie a monkey's fist when I worked for the National Park Service at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in San Francisco.

I use the monkey's fist as the corporate symbol for my business -- Cooperative Adventures. The three strands on each side of the knot stand for the goals of Cooperative Adventures -- trust, risk-taking, and cooperation.
